Abstract

Zhiani M, Mousavi MA, Rostamizadeh K, Pirizadeh R, Osali A, Mennati A, Motlagh B, Fathi M (2021). siRNA + regorafenib hybrid nanoparticles trigger apoptosis in regorafenib-resistant colon cancer.

Detailed Discussion & Nanotech Implementation

As a contributing author on this study (led by Zhiani et al.), the research examined how regorafenib-resistant colon cancer cells respond to siRNA targeting integrin-β1 when combined with regorafenib, delivered via a DDAB-mPEG-PCL hybrid nanoparticle — the same class of hybrid carrier developed in the researcher’s own breast cancer work. Silencing integrin-β1 alongside regorafenib treatment was associated with increased apoptosis in the resistant cell line, suggesting that integrin-targeted gene silencing may help re-sensitize drug-resistant colon cancer cells to existing chemotherapy agents rather than requiring an entirely new drug.
