Abstract

Mennati A et al. (2021). mPEG-PCL/DDAB hybrid nanocarriers for efficient intracellular lycopene delivery to MCF-7 breast cancer cells.

Detailed Discussion & Nanotech Implementation

This study focused on the nanocarrier itself rather than a specific gene target: methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(ε-caprolactone) (mPEG-PCL) diblock copolymers were synthesized and hybridized with the cationic lipid DDAB to evaluate their suitability as delivery vehicles. Lycopene was used as a model compound to assess cellular delivery into MCF-7 breast cancer cells. This carrier-characterization work — covering formulation, stability, and in vitro delivery efficiency — underpins the hybrid lipid-polymeric platform later applied to siRNA delivery in the 2022 and 2024 studies above.
